Annual Training Course for Careers Advisers

Fee: Resident £398.10, Non-Resident £316.40 (Inc VAT)

The Annual Training Course has been developed to offer newly-appointed Careers Advisers a comprehensive introduction to current best practice in Careers Education and Guidance, but is also appropriate for experienced Careers Advisers who want to update their knowledge in this area.

Those who attend the course can expect to leave with a wealth of information on the provision of high-quality careers advice and support which can be adapted to the particular demands of each school.

Resources will be available for browsing and reference throughout the course, and highly-qualified and experienced ISCO staff will be available for discussion and consultation.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Careers Education – theory, planning, practice and quality standards.
  • Higher Education – the basics plus development and issues from University admissions tutor.
  • Guidance – principles of guidance for individuals and groups.
  • Futurewise – understanding and interpreting the profile and using the results with students throughout their school career
  • Resources – a practical session on managing the careers department and using careers and higher education resources with students.

The delivery of the topics will be via a mixture of workshops and plenary sessions.

Delegates will be able to explore topics covered at the Annual Training Course in more depth at half or one day courses provided by ISCO throughout the year. These normally include: Futurewise, Work Related Learning, Oxbridge Preparation, Successful UCAS Applications, Medical Applications.
